XBunker i
s run and curated by Team X-bunker.
The old railway tunnel on the railway line from Sonderborg to Mommark was closed in the 1960s, and then during the Cold War it was redesigned and transformed into a nuclear shelter (a bunker) with two large rooms, sized 10 x 20 meters and 10 x 16 meters respectively. The height is 5 meters at the highest point of the tunnel.

The train has left and the war never happened, so now Xbunker forms the excellent basis for experimental contemporary art. The Xbunker Committee under the auspices of Sonderborg Art Council wants to give the public alternative and experimental exhibitions of a high professional standard. The exhibitions will often be controversial, breaking new ground as to the traditional concept of ART and aimed at breaking the conventions.

We want to be international with a focus especially directed at German and Danish contemporary art. This, however, doesn’t prevent qualitative art from the rest of the world. We have high ambitions and are always on the lookout for cooperation with artists in Denmark as well as abroad.

Xbunker is curated by a permanent committee (Team X-bunker), whose members currently are Trine Maria Høy, Lise Tuxen, Poul Henrik Iversen, Søren Møller and Thomas Lunau. All enquiries, including questions regarding the conditions of our exhibitions, can be sent directly to: mail@xbunker.dk

Opening hours are sundays from 14-16 pm in exhibition periods, unless something else is announced.
