ABOUT...

Past...
Since 2009 we have run the exhibition space, XBunker in Sønderborg. We have had high ambitions, aiming at exhibitions of young, experimenting contemporary art from Denmark, Germany, USA, etc. But in the spring of 2013 some young drug addicts moved into the old railway tunnel/nuclear bomb shelter and ruined all our equipment, used axes on our installations and painted nazi slogans on all walls. We have previously had uninvited guests in the rooms, which TeamXbunker has been using at the courtesy of Sønderborg Kommune, but never to this extent. We have therefore informed Sønderborg Kommune that we no longer wish to make use of the “old” XBunker.

Current...
We have now found a possible concept for a continuation of XBunker in cooperation with Sønderborg Library. There is a large, rough room in the basement, where the authenticity can be maintained to a certain extent. The height of the room is not as we were used to, but 140 m2 of space and extra rooms in the back are all we need. We have all the voluntary workers, who are needed to redecorate the rooms and we are busy contacting artists in Denmark as well as abroad. Official opening of the space: 22. August 2014 at 5 pm. The new space is situated 50 meters from the “old” Xbunker!

Organization...
XBunker is curated by a permanent committee, Team XBunker, whose memebers currently are Søren Møller (artist), Thomas Lunau (artist), Dorthe Saldern Meier (artist), Sean Paul McCluskey (artist) and Jesper Kristiansen (artist).
